We got a question from a new customer this morning asking the difference between Mail.Delivered, Mail.Transferred, and Mail.TotalRouted on the mail volume reports.  Great question!

Mail.Delivered is incremented each time a message is deposited by the router into a user’s mailbox on this server
Mail.Transferred is incremented each time a message is forwarded to another server in your domain for delivery
Mail.TotalRouted is a sum of those two numbers, and a bit harder to explain… so here’s a scenario:

If I send a message to a group with 5 people in it, and one of those recipients is on the same mail server as me, and 4 are not, then on my home server, then
Mail.Delivered will be incremented by 1
Mail.Transferred will be incremented by 4
Mail.TotalRouted will be incremented by 5

On the other servers, Mail.Delivered will be incremented as each message is delivered, but the other statistics will remain the same, unless mail is set up as a hub and spoke, in which case Mail.Transferred will be incremented on the hubs.
